N’ karm lipyaté naré
‘So Karm cleaveth not to man’
Karmphal Siddhānt
The Karmphal Theory of Hinduism
Ved, Yajurvéd, Mantr 40|2 states:
‘Kurvannév karmāñi jijīvishéchchhatagvong samāh,
Évam tvayi nānýthéto’sti n’ karm lipyaté naré.’
‘Doing Karm only, here, one should wish
Only this is the way for thee, none else;
So Karm cleaveth not to man.’
Let’s discuss what do ‘n’ karm lipyaté naré.’ ‘So Karm cleaveth not to man’ means here.
One thing is certain from the words of the Mantr itself, even to a person of ordinary prudence, that the Mantr is declaring here a new principle not known to us till now, or at least not accepted by most of us to be true.
This new/disputed principle is:
‘Action sticks to man.’
This Mantr is telling how to get rid of it.
What does it mean?
It means that if we do not resort to what this Mantr tells us, our actions always stick to us.
We can’t ever get rid of them.
Lord Vishñu has himself drawn the same conclusion from this Mantr.
Meaning, the commentary of our Lord Vishñu, himself, on this Mantr is, the Vishñu Bhāshý on this Mantr is:
‘Nābhuktam xīyaté karm, kalpkoŧishatairapi.’
‘Without producing result, no action expires, even in hundreds of crores of kalps.’
— Lord Vishñu to Tārxý: Garud Purāñ
Shrī Rāmcharit Mānas says:
‘Karm pradhān Vishv kari rākhā,
Jo jas karahin so tas phal chākhā.’
‘Eīshān Param Brahm Paramātmā has done everything/all oriented to action. As one does so one has to suffer/enjoy.’
It’s not actually what only Hinduism states.
Even a well known proverb is: ‘As you sow so you reap.’
What does this proverb say?
The same thing this Mantr is telling us.
Doesn’t it?
Hinduism extends this principle to its logical scientific conclusion:
‘The principle of Shaktipāt and Shaktixaý.’:
Mā chidanyadvi shansat sakhāyo mā rishañyat,
Indramitstotā vrashañam sachā suté muhurukthā ch’ shansat.
-̶-VED: R’gved: 8|1|1
One can always taste it, working in the daily life of us humankind, whether we like it or not.
There isn’t any discipline anywhere ever that considers the likes or unlikes of its practitioners.
Neither any such discipline ever can be devised.
Right from the beginning of the humankind, countless human beings have tried to do it.
Has anyone of them succeeded ever?
What does it mean?
Doesn’t it mean the same thing what our Lord Vishñu has stated to his younger brother Tārxý:
‘Nābhuktam xīyaté karm, kalpkoŧishatairapi.’
‘Without producing result, no action expires, even in hundreds of crores of kalps.’
— Lord Vishñu to Tārxý: Garud Purāñ
I suggest all of us to think on it, without any prejudice against it, impassively.
