1. R’shi: Dévrāt Vaishvāmitr, formerly known as Shunahshép Ājīgarti.
Originally, he was son of Ajīgart, ‘Ājīgarti’.
Aétaréý Brāhmañ, 7|17, states Vedarshi Lord Bhagvān Vishvāmitr adopted Shunahshép Ājīgarti as his own son.
He renamed Shunahshép Ājīgarti as Dévrāt Vaishvāmitr.
Why his originally surname ‘Ājīgarti’ was changed into ‘Vaishvāmitr’, is not written there, in Aétaréý Brāhmañ, 7|17.
Why even his original name ‘Shunahshép’ was changed into ‘Dévrāt’ by Vedarshi Lord Bhagvān Vishvāmitr, is also not written there.
Aétaréý Brāhmañ, 7|17, states only:
‘Dévā vā imam mahyamarāsatéti s’ h’ Dévrāto Vaishvāmitr ās.’
Āchārý Sāyañ has written in his commentary on this Mantr:
‘Tathā ch’ anukrāntam kasý panchonājīgartih Shunah Shépah s’ kr’trimo Vaishvāmitro Dévrāto…’
