Mandal 1| Sookt 164| Mantr 46

DSM Satyarthi

——————————————————————————————

Indram mitram varuñamagnimāhuratho divyah s’ suparño garutmān. Ékam sadviprā bahudhā vadantyagnim yamam mātarishvānamāhuh.

——————————————————————————————

1Indr2, Mitr3, Varuñ4 is called Agni5. Of course6, Divine is He, Who brings up superbly7, Graceful8. The intellectuals call the One Existence variously9. The One Who leads to light is called Yam10 Mātarishvā11.

——————————————————————————————

1. R’shi: Dkrghtamā Mahimvat Auchathý

Dévtā: Sūrý, Brave

Chhand/Meter: Trishŧup

2. Controller of organs.

We control the organs of everyone.

Some persons think ‘Indr’ is the name of a separate deity.

It’s their ignorance and superstition.

Anyone who controls organs, whether of his/her own whether that of the others is called ‘indr’ in Vedic Sanskr’t.

3. We are the Creator.

We’ve created all of you.

Yet, We don’t like to behave as a Master/Lord with you.

Instead, We love to behave as a friend to you.

We haven’t created you to do Our work as Our slaves.

We are Omnipotent.

So, We don’t need slaves to do any of Our Work.

We are Competent enough to do everything We need/want to do.

No slave is needed to Us for it.

4. The Chosen One.

We haven’t created you unable to disobey Us.

You can disobey Us even, if you think Our Constitution is harmful to you or to the others.

You have perfect liberty in the matter.

Yet, you have chosen to obey and follow Our Constitution.

Now, since you’ve chosen Us your guide, while you were given liberty  to disobey and even to revolt too against Us, at least be sincere to what you’ve decided yourself on your own accord.

At least be sincere and honest to yourself.

None forced you to choose you Us your guide.

You were only argued to it.

You argued, as much as you wanted/could and reached the conclusion that you should accept Us your guide, because under the circumstances and situations, as they stand, it’s the only wise step you should have taken.

Now, at least be true to your own decision.

Don’t make it your nature to doubt it every now and then.

A person, so suspicious of him/herself every now and then, can’t make any progress, or at least his/her progress is not so fast as that of the others.

Life is full of competitions and strange things.

There are politicians who are always trying to deceive you for their own benefits.

So, you have to be cautious of other persons even.

If you waste your time in doubting yourself, every now and then, you can’t compete with the rest of the persons, successfully.

Remember, We are not advising you not to contemplate on what you’re going to do.

It’s also necessary.

We’ve Ourselves advised you to follow two principles in life at least:

a.        ‘Dhiyo yo nah prachodayāt

b.       ‘Yāthātathyatah

Naturally, We can’t advise you not to contemplate.

But, there is a wide difference in contemplating and in doubting yourself every now and then.

We want to protect you from the second action, not from the first.

5. One Who leads to light.

6. ‘Atho’ in the original text.

7. ‘Suparñah’ in original text.

If you scrutinize Our attributes described in optimum details in Ved, it’s impossible you don’t find/detect the divinity in them.

We bring you up superbly.

When you are an infant, We’ve arranged a father, a mother and even milk in the mother’s concerned organs.

You need oxygen to breathe, and there’s plenty of it in the air surrounding you.

The most needed to you is the most easily available to you too.

Water is the second thing you need most for your life.

It’s also available to you not only after too many efforts.

Food is your next need.

You’ve to do some efforts for it.

We don’t want to make life difficult for you, but at the same time, We don’t want to make you idle too.

Now, you can understand how superbly We bring you up.

An idle never survives.

Remember, We have based your life not on oxygen, as the people erroneously think so.

You can survive without oxygen even if you have the proper shaktimān, proper energy for it.

It’s not easy to believe it, yet it’s true.

There are so many things you can’t believe to be in existence, yet they do exist.

Never think you are all knowing.

None is all knowing except Us.

Neither anyone can be.

Even Param Purush, the Absolute man, is only almost all knowing.

Moreover, the difference in his knowledge and that of Us is infinite.

Consequently, however much the facts are known to you, there are always some facts which are not known to you.

The shaktimān is based on your actions.

So, actually, your life depends on your actions, not on oxygen.

You can survive without oxygen, if you manage it in proper way.

But you can never survive without action.

Kurvannév karmāñi jijīvishéchchhatagvong samāh,

Évam tvayi nānýthéto’sti n’ karm lipyaté naré.’

‘Doing Karm only, here, one should wish

to live hundreds of years.

Only this is the way for thee, none else;

So Karm cleave not to man.’

Ved: 2 Yajurved: 40|2

8. ‘Garutmān’ in the original text.

We bring you up, but it does not mean that it affects Our Grace adversely.

We are still Graceful as you are brought up by Us indirectly, Not directly.

Moreover, it adds to Our Grace more, to bring you up in the manner.

9. We are ‘One Existence’ ‘Ékam Sat’.

It’s a matter of common sense if there’s power, there must be its Ultimate Part too.

So if there are some powerful beings, there must be an Ultimate Power too, enjoyed by someone.

This Ultimate Power can’t be more than one.

If it is more than one, it can’t be Ultimate.

Viprā bahudhā vadanti’ ‘The intellectuals call variously’ means the name of the Ultimate Power is not important.

It does not make any difference how one calls the Ultimate Power.

Some call it that it controls the organs ‘indr’.

Whose organs it does control?

Obviously those of others.

It is declared manywhere in Ved that the Ultimate Power according to Ved does not have any organ.

It is not needed for Him to perform His functions whatsoever they are.

He is fully capable to perform His all functions, whatsoever they are, without any external help.

10. Controller.

Controller of everyone whosoever and everything whatsoever.

Nothing and nobody is beyond our control anywhere.

11. One who breathes in mother too.

Even your mother is not alive self dependently.

You can say that the heaven lies under her feet, but it is so because We have made it so.

Even your mother has to face her Divine Birth, her Divý Janm.

Dadhushŧvā bhr’gavo mānushéshvā rayim n’ chārum Suhavam janébhyah,

hotāramagné atithim varéñyam mitram n’ shévam divyāý janmané.’

The pure established you, the beautifully called one; for people,  properly, in human beings, like beautiful wealth,

Hota, Agni, guest, worthy to be chosen, like affectionate friend, for Divý Janm, Divine Birth.’

Ved 1R’gved 1|58|6

Even your very mother, who has paradise for you under her feet, can’t run away from her Divý Janm, Divine Birth.

We haven’t made anyone capable of it.

So, it’s one thing to say that ‘Jananī janmbhūmishch’ svargādapi garīyasī’ ‘Mother and the land of birth are even greater than heaven’, and it’s quite another thing to refuse heaven for the residence of your mother.

You’d never refuse it for your mother if you really love and respect her.

Naturally, the One Who causes your mother to breathe is more important to be cared for than even your mother is.

She can’t provide you heaven if she herself is Not there.

Moreover, ‘The One Who leads to light is called Yam10 Mātarishvā11’ ‘Agnim yamam mātarishvānamāhuh’ does mean: there are two entities who ‘lead to light’ ‘Agni’, according to Ved/Eishān Param Brahm Paramātmā.

‘But, the First One is ‘Yam’, and the Second one is Mātarishvā.

The Mātarishvā is also Yam, but the Yam is not Mātarishvā:

Dvā suparñā sayujā sakhāyā

samānam vr’xam parishasvajāté.

tayoranyah pippalam svādvattyanashnannanyo,

abhichākshīti.’

Two fair guardians/birdswith fair wings, never

separate, live together ever; on the same tree

embracing knit each other.

Out of the two, one eats the sweet fruit of the

tree, the Other, eating not, supervises optimum.’

Ved: 1R’gved| M1| S164| M20

We are Yam, the Controller, the Absolute Controller.

Mātarishvā, the Param Purush, the Absolute Man is the controller, because We have made him so.

He is not the controller self dependently, neither any one can be.

Mātarishvā does mean who breathes in mother, ‘Y’ mātari shvasiti’.

Of course, We don’t breathe.

Neither, We need to breathe ever:

Yatprāñén n’ prāñati yén prāñah prañīyaté,

Tamév Brahm tvam viddhi nédam yadidamupāsaté.’

‘The One Who does not breathe to live, the oxygen needs Whom for its existence, Know only Him the Supreme, not the one who needs it.’
