‘Tanvam pushem’ ‘Let’s safeguard the body’: Ved

Tanvam pushem

Let’s safeguard the body: Ved

DSM Satyarthi

It is generally understood, and unfortunately, still being preached very much, that our body is not important.

Our soul is important.
Of course, it’s right, but not to the extent it’s being preached erroneously.
It is important as far as our further evolution is concerned.
But it is dangerous, for our present life, if we ignore our physical body at all, as some of us fatally do, in their utter ignorance of the fact, erroneously.
Mamaagne varcho vihavesvastu vayam tvendhaanaastanvam pushem,Mahyam namantaam pradishaschatasrastvayaadhyaxe n’ pr’tanaa jayem.’‘My splendor be, Agni, in special/ various calls. We bright you all. Let’s safeguard the body. Four directions bow to me. Let’s win the armies with you President.’

Ved: 4Atharv Ved|5|3|1

Tanvam pushemLet’s safeguard the body‘.

Why does Eishan Param Brahm Paramatma propose it, if it’s not at all important?
Why ‘Let’s safeguard the body‘, if it isn’t important at all?
Of course, our soul is important.
Our spirit is important.
But, we should never forget that we see each other’s bodies, not souls.
We behave with each other’s bodies, not with souls.
We recognize each other’s bodies as particular persons, not their souls.
The soul has been described by Lord Kr’shn‘:
Anaaditvaannirgun’atvaatparam aatmaayamavyayah.
Shareerastho’pi, Kauntey’! n’ karoti n’ lipyte.’
Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta: 13/32

‘This expenseless is the God due to its beginninglessness and its bodilessness.
Even in the body, O son of Kunti! neither does work nor does cleave.’
Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta: 13/32

This entire chapter 13 of Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta, deals with the subject under discussion.

Idam shareeram, Kauntey’! xetramityabhidheeyate.
Etadyo vetti tam praahuh xtragy’ iti tadvidah.’

‘This material body, O son of Kunti! is called the field (of activity). The person who knows it is called appropriately, the knower of the field, by the knowers of it.
Shrimad Bhagvad Geeta: 13/2
